Day 1: Arrival at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport
Meet your Lungo Local Tour Ethiopia representative at exit of luggage claim and transfer to the hotel. Overnight stay in hotel.
Day 2: Addis Ababa City Tour
You will have an early breakfast. Your first visit in Addis Ababa will be to the National Museum. It houses numerous antiquarian relics and archaeological artifacts (most famous exhibit is the 3.5 million year old skeleton of Lucy). Then you will continue to visit Mount Entoto (3,200 above sea level), Church of St Mary (1885) and Emperor Menelik II Palace. The Entoto Museum, with its historical exhibits is well worth a visit. Lunch at Lucy Restaurant.
After lunch you will visit Trinity Cathedral. It was constructed by Emperor Haile Selassie in 1947 (ornamented with carvings and mosaic and other artistic works such as paintings of saints and the apostles on the stained glass) and visit Merkato, the largest open market in Africa. In the evening, you will have dinner at the hotel and you will rest.
In the evening, we will host you at one of the best traditional restaurants of Addis where you can see the folk dances of the Ethiopian people and taste a variety of Ethiopian meals. Overnight hotel in Addis Ababa.
Day 3
After breakfast, you will drive to Awash National Park (225 Km from Addis). On the way, you will visit Lake Basaka and its aquatic birds. Upon arrival at the park, you will check into a lodge. In the late afternoon, you will do sightseeing at the Awash waterfalls and see the wild life. In the evening, you will have dinner, rest and spend the night there. Overnight stay in lodge.
Day 4
You will have an early breakfast and drive to Harar (318 Km from Awash National Park). You will stop for lunch at Asebe Teferi and you will arrive in Harar late in the afternoon where you will check into a hotel. Early in the evening, you will visit the man feeding wild hyenas. Then you will have dinner and spend the night there. Overnight stay in hotel.
Day 5
You will have an early breakfast and visit the walled city of Jegol, the house of Arthur Rimbaud (a French poet who lived in Harar in 1880s), Emperor Haile Selassies home (where he was born & raised) and Harari Cultural Museum. In the evening, you will have dinner and stay the night at the hotel.
Day 6
After an early breakfast, you will drive to Babile Elephant Sanctuary. You will have lunch in the bush. Then you will drive back to Harar. In the evening you will have dinner and stay the night at the hotel.
Day 7
You will have breakfast and drive to Dire Dawa (50 km from Harar). Upon arrival, you will check into the hotel. After lunch, you will visit Dire Dawa, a city of diverse architectural styles and of people from many different cultures from around the world. In the evening, you will have dinner and stay the night in the hotel.
Day 8
In the morning, after breakfast, you will drive to Lega Oda (38 Km from Dire Dawa). You will visit the Lega Oda (a pre-historic cave painting). You will then drive back to Dire Dawa and have lunch. In the afternoon rest and relax. Early in the evening, we walk around Kezira and enjoy the night life. In the evening, you will have dinner and stay the night in the hotel.
Day 9
After breakfast, you will be driven back to Addis Ababa (538 Km). You will have lunch at Nazareth (Adama). You will arrive in Addis Ababa late afternoon, where you may do some shopping for souvenirs. Finally, if your departing flight time allows it, you will be taken to a farewell dinner. You will be transferred out to Bole International Airport for your return flight.
