Summary: Ethiopia adventure tour

Duration: 20 days 19 night.

Day 1

Addis Ababa

Arival bole international airport welcoming by the reperentatives of Lungo lcal tours Ethiopia transfer to hotel after check in your hotel a tea break we will have trekking on entoto hills. Overnight vanecia hotel

Day 2: together with lungo local tour Ethiopia flight to Gondar and Drive from Gondar to sankaber Early in the morning flight to Gondar and on arrival direct drive to sankaber via Debark, where the park headquarters are located, to the Simien Mountains. You will have a stopover for a few hours trekking before Sankabar camp where you will see the first views from the top of the escarpment. Overnight camping

DAy 3

Today you trek around 6 hours to Gich Camp through farmed areas and the village of Gich. You may spot the endemic Gelada Monkeys, Klipspringers (a small mountain antelope), Menelik Bushbacks and many interesting plants. You will also see the Jinbar waterfalls which flow over a 500 metre cliff. Gich camp lies on a plateau at an altitude of 3600m.

Day 4:

Using Gich camp as your base, you will walk up to the summit of Imetgogo (3926m), a high rocky outcrop on the edge of the escarpment to the east of the camp, with spectacular views north and east across the foothills and plains. You will walk through fields of the endemic Giant Lobelia plants. You will walk back via Saha to see the other side of Imetgogo. You are likely to see Klipspringers, Walia Ibex (a wild goat, endemic to the Simiens), and many spectacular birds including the Lammergeyer. Total trekking time is around 5 hours giving time fr a relaxing afternoon.

Day 5

Together with lungo local tour Ethiopia Today’s trek to Chennek offers some of the most spectacular views of the whole trek. After a 3-4 hour morning trek you will have your lunchbreak at the head of the Inateyvalley (4070m) before continuing along of the Belegez valley to Chennek camp.From Chennek you can see over the escarpment edge and across the foothills. This is a good place to spot Walia Ibex and more Gelada monkeys. Total trekking time for the day is 8-9 hours. Overnight camping

Day6:

Today’s route to Ambiko from Chennek takesyou up onto Bwahit’s northern shoulder, Ethiopia’s second highest mountain at 4430m. Coming down from Bwahit you go through the mountain town of Chiroleba, which feels very busy after the last few days in the mountains. You then cross the Mesheha river before a gentle climb to the Ambiko campsite which is situated next to the village church. Ambiko is at 3200m and total trekking time is 10-11 hours. Overnight camp.

Day 7

Today you climb Ras Dejen. It is an early start before sunrise, initially heading out of the valley before starting the real climb. Before reaching the peak you enter a semi circular basin of rocky peaks, with the highest being Ras Dejen at 4543m. The last part of the climb is a scramble but you are rewarded with fine views from the top. You spend the rest of the day hiking back to Ambiko camp. Total walking time is approx. 11-14 hours. Overnight camp

Day 8:

Today’s trek to Sona initially takes you back to the river, then follows the valley uphill. Later on in the day you will pass through cultivated fields ad mountain hamlets today takes you to Sona. From Sona there are good view back onto the high peaks of the Simiens, total trekking time is approximately 10 hours. Overnight camp

Day 9:

Today’s trek involves an overall descent of 1200m. The initial section is a steep downhill to the river, followed by an undulating path that follows the valley. You will have your lunchbreak by the river in the shade of an enormous fig tree, where you will have the chance to buy some local handicrafts and drink coffee from the locals. You will camp at Mekarbiya next to the local school which you can visit if you wish. The day’s trek takes around 5 hours, and the campsite is at 2065m. Overnight camp

Day 10:

Together with lungo local tour Ethiopia Today you walk to Mulit camp (2100m) and past a beautiful cool lagoon. After lunch there is a steep relatively short climb, which is often hot, but at the top there is a local cafe with refreshments. Total trekking time is 4-5 hours. As tonight is the last night and we are out of the national park, we can have a little party with singing and dancing – both Ethiopian and any contributions that you may have. There will also be the chance to try the local drink of ‘tella’ –fermented barley. Overnight camp

Day 11:

Today is a short morning walk along a forested ridge and then through cultivated land taking you to Adiarkay where you meet the main road and a car will be waiting to collect you. The car can take you to aksum and dependes of time to make city tour of aksum.  Overnight hotel armha

Day 12

Drive from aksum to hawezen to visit three churches; Abuna Yemata Guh;

To visit Abuna Yemata Guh, walking for about an hour to commence a steep ascent up the side of the Gheralta massif. This steep ascent soon turn into a climb using foot holds and hand holds chipped into the sandstone rock by the passage of many hands and feet. The climb and the walk along very narrow ledges with sheer drops to the side is not one for the faint hearted. The church itself can be reached by walking out on a ledge one meter wide and with a 200m drop to the left hand side. At the entrance there is a small cave and a wooden door built into the rock.

If we have time we continue one Of the three, Maryam Korkor is the most impressive architecturally. A huge, high ceiling is supported by 12 free standing pillars. Looking at it you could not help but wonder how the architect managed to carve so high from the ground. Then Drive to Mekele.Over Nigh at planet hotel.

Day 13

Mekele – Hamede Ela

Drive to Hamedela via Berhale. The Danakil Depression can be said to ‘begin’ here. It is one of the most inhospitable regions of the world, but is nonetheless spectacular, full of eye-catching colors, as in the sulphur springs. The desert has several points lying more than 100 meters (328 ft) below sea level. You pass through a small town of Berhale where the camel caravans stop before they proceed to the northern highlands. En route you see many long caravans going to the salt mines and others coming out of the Danakil with their salt loaded camels. (3-4 hrs drive) Over night Camp at Hamedela.

Day 14

Hamd Ela – Dodom

We start early, shortly after a 06:30 breakfast, and drive to Askoma at the base of new Erta Ale. The 80 km distance may take about 6 hrs passing through changing landscape of solidified lava, rock, sand and the occasional palm lined oasis. You pass several small hamlets scattered here and there in this desert land, before reaching Askoma village or parking area.  You will trek from Askoma to the new Erta Ale which takes about 4 hrs. Early dinner around 17:00 and trek up to the new Erta Ale reach around 20:00. Camels transport all the camping materials and some food, sleeping materials, mattresses and water, to the rim of the volcano, where we spend the night watching the dramatic action of the boiling lava. New Erta Ale ranks one of the most alluring and physically challenging natural attractions anywhere in Ethiopia. It is a shield volcano with a base diameter of 30 km and 1km square caldera at its summit. New Erta Ale is part of the world’s only permanent lava lake and you will spend an unforgettable night on the top of the mountain. The magma flow moved 3.5 kms south from old Erta Ale to the New eruption point. Overnight camp

Day 15

Together with lungo local tour Ethiopia we see Sunrise at the volcano and Lake Afdera Early morning you will rise with the sun with time to walk around pits and craters. The main pit-crater, 200 m deep and 350 m across, is sub-circular and three storied. The smaller southern pit is 65 m wide and about 100 m deep. You will leave around 7:00 to head back to Askoma for breakfast. You will reach latest at 10:30 am at the camp and after some time to relax you will drive to Lake Afdera  the mythical Lake Giulietti (or lake Afrera), a salt water lake located more than100 meters below sea level, in one of the deepest depressions of the planet. Because of the picturesque landscape, it is interesting to visit the salt flats where the Afar people obtain the salt by evaporating the water of the lake. On continue to Hamad Ela, a village with a total population about 500 people. Over night camping at Hamed Ela.

Day 16

Morning driving tour to Ragad (Asebo), the place where the salts are mined. Observe the breaking of the salt from the ground, cutting into rectangular pieces and loading on camels. You drive ahead to Dallol and visit the difference landscape formed by volcanic activity, Dallol + Lake Assal + camel caravans. Excursion to Dallol (116 meter below sea level, one of the lowest places in the world) colorful salts mining, visit Lake Assal, follow up camel caravans and walk with the Afar people. Drive  Then drive to lake Afrera. Visit Afar people extracting salt from lake Afrera. Drive to Afar people and the Afar people capital: Semera.

Djibouti-lake Abe and lake Asale Early morning drive from Samara -Dikhil-lake abe Over night at the beach lake abe

Day 18

After the morning sun rise at lake Abe then drive to Dredawa- harar via  yokobi-gaggade-lac Assal –   Continue to harar over night rewda waber cultural guest house.

Day19

Drive to Harar (45 minutes.)  Stroll through the 16th century walled city of Harar, the fourth most important city in the Islamic World.  See the home of Arthur Rimbuad, renowned French poet who worked and lived in Harar as a “gun-runner” during the 19th century.  Visit the National and Harari museums; the house of Ras Mekonnen (father of Haile Selassie); and a traditional Harari home.  In the evening see the “Hyena Man” feeding the hyenas that gather nightly outside the town.

Day 20

Together with lungo local tour Ethiopia harar – Awash National Park Drive to Awash National Park via Harege Plateau, a region of coffee and chat plantations. Thenlate afternoon drive back to addis ababa enjoy Ethiopian lve tadetional music folk dance at yod absenya restaurant then transfer to the airport or extend the night in addis ababa. Tezez hotel
